Released in 2002, Quelqu'un m'a dit (English: "Someone Told Me") is singer/songwriter, supermodel, and First Lady of France Carla Bruni's debut album. The album features twelve tracks, all sung in French, and was first released by the independent French record label Naïve. The album was a huge critical and commercial success in Europe, reaching the number one sales position in both France and Belgium, spending thirty-four non-consecutive weeks in the top ten in France, going platinum in four nations (France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Canada), and reaching the top ten in more than a dozen nations. Since it was released, it has sold more than 1,200,000 copies, making it by far the most successful of Bruni's three albums.
Born in Torino (Turin), Italy on December 23, 1967, Carla Bruni has lived one of the most colorful lives of anyone in the world's view today. As an heiress to a major Italian fortune, Bruni was raised in privilege, growing up primarily in France and attending boarding school in Switzerland. She moved to Paris as a teenager to study art and architecture but abandoned her studies at age 19 to become a model. Bruni quickly rose through the ranks of the best European models, becoming one of the top twenty paid in the world and achieving supermodel status. During her modeling period, she became widely known for her relationships with some of the world's most notable men, including Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, and former French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius.
By 1997, Bruni quit the modeling world to focus exclusively on her music. In 2002, she released Quelqu'un m'a dit and became a major musician in Europe and the French-speaking world. She followed with No Promises, a poetry concept album, in 2007, and then Comme si de rien n'était in 2008. She is now perhaps best known as the First Lady of France, following her whirlwind 2007 romance and subsequent February 2008 marriage to French President Nicolas Sarkozy. She retains her Italian citizenship and now also holds French citizenship as a result of her marriage. Still active with her music, Bruni now spends much of her time on official state business, representing France at various world functions and meeting with the leaders of other nations.
